EARLY YEARS
Faine, like most male Viera, began his training as a Warder when he was only a young kit. Removed from the Anavarr village, he was taken into the dangerous and unforgiving wilderness of the Skatay, and taught the harsh lessons of survival from his master. Yet, despite the difficulties and risk of death, he thrived. The duty of a wood warder was his calling, and he took to it with a seriousness that bordered on obsession, determined to keep his tribe and kin safe. The solitude seemed to be no burden to him, and he made it his life's work to strengthen his martial skills and survival knowledge, ready to pass down to the next generation of warders. During his time as a warder, he took two wards under his wing. Only one survived the training. However, over time and after certain events, there were some rules Faine began to bend. If he spotted a fellow warder in trouble - whether they had attained mastery or otherwise - he would step in, regardless of the solitude they were meant to maintain. He was also known to organise small hunt groups of two or three warders, for slaying beasts from the mountains that were too deadly for a single man to fell. He is proud, and he is strong... but he is no use to anyone dead.NOW
After abandoning his tribe for reasons that are his own, Faine struggles to find purpose. His love for being a warder, and his devotion to his kin, simply has not translated well to life outside of the Skatay. Instead, he finds himself struggling to adapt his skills to new and challenging climates, and to bend to the unspoken social contracts of other peoples. He never realised how different Viera were to the other races of Eorzea. It is a gulf of understanding he still struggles to bridge.Eventually, he found success as a mercenary, his size, skill at arms, and ability to survive on the road with very little proving desirable traits. He also learned quickly that trying to discover anything about who he was - or what he was - often led to suspicion and fear, and quick escapes under the cover of darkness. For years, he spent his time doing other people's dirty work. His work saw him to Ishgard, hunting a rather unusual quarry. And, by doing so, ended up allying himself with a group called The Wayfarers. It was an unlikely turn of events, but one he cannot possibly bring himself to regret. Not having met the people he has, and finding the comfort of his partner.

SURFACE LEVEL
(SUITED TO EARLY ENCOUNTERS)o Large, for a rabbit: Faine stands far taller than most Viera, rivaling male Au ra for height. He does not shy away from this trait, and will happily use it to acquire work or intimidate those around him. However, call him a 'rabbit' only at your own risk...o Are those... scales?: Much like his unusual size, Faine makes no attempt to conceal the patches of near-translucent scales that cover his skin. They catch the light when he shifts, and potentially the eyes of the curious, or those who wish to do him harm...o Stranger in a strange land: It would not be unusual for Faine to be caught having a... strange interaction with a local, or being swindled due to his lack of understanding of the local economy. A local guide may be in order, or simply a friendly traveler who is a bit more savvy that he is to step in and lend a hand...o Have weapon, will travel: Everything about Faine screams mercenary. Need a job done? Feel free to approach. He may not even ask for too much gil, if the cause is worthy enough... (OOC NOTE: No gil need actually be exchanged)
A LITTLE DEEPER
(SUITED TO LATER ENCOUNTERS)o Lost: The observant might likely catch an unusual look in Faine's eyes during moments of quiet; a kind of void that no amount of ale or gil can fill. While strangers can try, he is unlikely to open up to anyone other than trusted companions, or maybe fellow Viera.o A daring escape: Spot Faine at a social gathering, decorating the wall? Odds are he wants to leave. Yesterday. While anyone can offer him an out, or at least a reprieve from the pressure of strange customs, he may not agree unless he knows you...o Pale white and ice cold...: Faine's scales are cold to touch, and seem unable to warm. He also appears immune to all but the worst of cold weather, dressed inappropriately as he saunters through the snow. While it may not be particularly pleasant in most situations, he can present an excellent way for an overheating person to cool down...o Raise a glass (or a fist): If Faine knows you, he will not be against sharing a drink or a spar. But be warned if you invite him on a night out at the tavern - it takes a lot to get him drunk. If you offer to pay, make sure you can follow through...
Hey there! I'm Kae, and I am pretty new to the FFXIV RP scene. I'm in the GMT+10 timezone (i.e., east coast Australia), and am very keen to get to know other people and their characters! As I work full-time, I am mostly available in the late afternoon/evening and weekends.A little about me? I love to read, write, play with my dog, and look after my army of bonsai trees. By day, I am a librarian. By night, I am... well, also a librarian, but tired and in pyjamas. You can reach me on discord at @Kaesura, or in-game if we happen to cross paths. Faine can typically be found wandering around Sophia on the Materia DC.
I AM open to:
- Slice of life
- Character development (i.e., ongoing, multi-session RP)
- Romance (slow-burn)
- Casual relationships
- Long-term RP
- Mature/'Darker' RP
- Combat (and character injuries)
- One-shotsI am MAYBE open to:
- ERP. However, this is very conditional. Ideally, it would have to be part of long-term RP, and not the main focus of our characters' interactions. I am also totally fine with RPing intimacy, then fading to black.I am NOT open to:
- Any RP with people under 18
- ERP without established plot/connection (i.e., no one-shots/walk-ups)
- WOL characters
- Metagaming/Godmodding/Powergaming/etc.
- Mixing IC/OOC. I like to keep those things very separate.
- Self-insert characters
